Chrome will warn visitors before opening sites without HTTPS

With Chrome 154, due in October 2026, Google is turning on the Always Use Secure Connections setting by default for all users. Chrome will then ask visitors for permission before it opens a public website that does not support HTTPS: a full-page warning, not just a "Not secure" label in the address bar.

If your site already opens on https:// without errors, nothing changes for you. If it does not, many of your visitors will see that warning first.

You can turn on free SSL from cPanel in a couple of minutes. Our guide Free SSL on cPanel: how to set it up and what breaks afterwards walks through it, including the mixed-content warnings that often follow.
