SSL certificates are getting shorter lifetimes

Since 15 March 2026, publicly trusted SSL certificates can be valid for at most 200 days. The limit was agreed by browser makers and certificate authorities through the CA/Browser Forum, and it drops again to 100 days in March 2027 and to 47 days in March 2029.
What it means for you: if your site uses the free certificate from cPanel (AutoSSL), renewal is already automatic and there is nothing to do. If you bought a certificate elsewhere and install it by hand, you will be replacing it more often from now on. Switching to the free certificate lets it renew itself.
