Windows RDP in Bangladesh: what it is, which version, and how much RAM

A Windows RDP server is a Windows computer in a data centre that you open from your own PC, laptop or phone with Remote Desktop. It has its own CPU, RAM, disk and internet connection, and it keeps running when your own computer is switched off.

That last part is the point. Anything that needs to stay online all day, without depending on your home power or internet, can live there.

What people use it for

  • Trading terminals such as MetaTrader, and trading bots that must run around the clock.
  • Office and accounting software that only runs on Windows, shared by a small team from different places.
  • Browser work: social media management, ad accounts and marketplaces, kept in one place instead of on a personal laptop.
  • Automation and scraping tools that need a full Windows desktop.
  • A clean work machine you can reach from anywhere, including from a phone.

Why BDIX matters for RDP in particular

Remote Desktop is interactive. Every key press, mouse movement and screen update is a round trip between you and the server. From Bangladesh to a server in Singapore that is often 60 ms or more each way round, which you notice as lag when typing or scrolling.

On a BDIX server, that round trip is usually under 10 ms from Bangladeshi broadband, and the desktop feels close to a local machine. Keep in mind that websites the RDP itself opens abroad still go over international bandwidth. BDIX speeds up the connection between you and the server, not the server's connection to the rest of the world.

Which Windows version to choose

VersionChoose it when
Windows Server 2022You want the newest option and longest support. The default choice for anything facing the internet.
Windows Server 2019Your software lists 2019 as supported, or you prefer its older interface.
Windows 10 LiteYou want a familiar desktop with a lighter memory footprint, for one or two light apps.
Windows Server 2012Only for old software that will not run on anything newer. Microsoft ended its support in October 2023, so it no longer gets security updates.

How much RAM you need

Windows itself uses roughly 1.5 to 2 GB before you open anything. A modern browser uses several hundred MB per busy tab or profile. From there:

  • 3 to 4 GB: one trading terminal or one light application.
  • 6 to 8 GB: a browser with several profiles, or a few applications side by side.
  • 12 to 16 GB: heavier software, many browser profiles, or two or three people using it.
  • 24 GB and up: larger teams or demanding automation.

If the server feels slow, open Task Manager and look at memory first. Running out of RAM is the usual cause, and it is fixed by moving up a plan.

How to connect

On Windows, open mstsc (Remote Desktop Connection) from the Start menu. On a Mac, iPhone or Android, install Microsoft's Windows App, previously called Remote Desktop. Enter the server's IP address, then the username and password you were given.

Keep it from being taken over

Every RDP server on the internet is attacked with password-guessing within hours of going online. Three settings stop nearly all of it:

  1. Change the password straight away to a long, unique one, at least 16 characters. Weak passwords are the most common way RDP servers are broken into.
  2. Keep Network Level Authentication on (System Properties, Remote tab). It is on by default; leave it that way.
  3. Limit who can connect. If your office or home has a fixed IP, allow only that IP to the RDP port in Windows Defender Firewall. If not, an account lockout policy after a few failed attempts slows guessing to a crawl.

Leave Windows Update on, too. Most RDP compromises use either a weak password or a patch that was never installed.

Our BDIX Windows RDP servers come with Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2012 or Windows 10 Lite, NVMe storage, a dedicated IPv4 and full administrator access, from 3 GB to 64 GB RAM.
