Registering a .com.bd is unlike registering a .com. There is no instant checkout. BTCL — Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited — runs the .bd namespace, and every application is reviewed by a human against documents you upload. Most of the frustration people hit comes from not knowing that up front.
Who is allowed to register one
.com.bd is intended for registered businesses. In practice, you need at least one government-issued document tying you or your organisation to the name you are asking for — a trade licence, TIN certificate, VAT certificate, incorporation certificate, or an equivalent.
If you are an individual with no registered business, this is the wall you will hit. A .com or a .xyz takes two minutes and no paperwork; a .com.bd will not be approved without something official behind it.
What you will need
Have these ready as clear scans before you start — a blurry phone photo of a folded trade licence is a common reason for rejection:
- A trade licence, TIN, VAT or incorporation certificate
- National ID of the applicant
- A working email address and mobile number, both of which get verified
- For some names, a forwarding or authorisation letter on company letterhead
The process, step by step
- Create a profile on BTCL's registration portal at bdia.btcl.com.bd, as an individual or an organisation.
- Verify your email and mobile number. Nothing proceeds until both are confirmed.
- Search for the name and submit the domain request form.
- Upload your documents. Take the time to make them legible.
- Pay the registration fee.
- Wait for review. BTCL's own guidance says one to three working days, and in our experience that is broadly accurate — though it stretches around public holidays.
Cost
Expect somewhere around ৳800–৳1,000 per year for a .com.bd, depending on where you register and the term you choose. That is more than a .com, and the renewal is not automatic in the way you may be used to — diary the expiry date yourself.
Where applications get rejected

The document does not match the name. If your trade licence says one business name and you are applying for a completely unrelated domain, expect questions. A recognisable relationship helps.
Unreadable uploads. Scan properly. Reviewers reject what they cannot read.
An unreachable phone or email. Verification messages go to the details on the profile. If those are wrong, the application simply stalls with no explanation.
A practical suggestion
If you need to launch this week, register a .com now and start the .com.bd in parallel. The .bd process is worth doing — it signals a genuinely Bangladeshi business in a way a .com does not — but it is not something to depend on for a deadline three days out.
Once approved, point it at your hosting by setting the nameservers in the BTCL panel. That part is ordinary DNS and takes effect within a few hours.
