People are usually quoted a build price and nothing else, then discover the running costs a year later when the first renewal arrives. Here is the whole picture for a small business site in Bangladesh.
The unavoidable two
Domain. A .com is roughly ৳1,200–1,500 a year. A .com.bd is around ৳800–1,000 but requires business documents and BTCL approval — see our guide. Budget for one, not both, unless the brand matters enough to hold the pair.
Hosting. Shared hosting in Bangladesh runs from about ৳600 a year at the very bottom to ৳3,000–4,000 for something roomy. Anything advertised at ৳300 a year is oversold and you will feel it at the worst time.
So the genuine floor for a working site is somewhere near ৳2,000 a year, all in.
What should be free, and often is not
SSL. Let's Encrypt is free and issues automatically on any decent host. If you are being charged separately for a basic certificate, that is a fee for something the server does by itself.
Basic email. A handful of addresses on your domain comes with almost any hosting plan.
Migration. Most hosts move an existing site for free, including us. Being charged to leave — or to arrive — is a choice the host made.
What nobody quotes
This is where budgets break:
Premium plugins and themes. A WooCommerce store easily carries ৳10,000–20,000 a year in licences once you count a page builder, a decent form plugin, and whatever the checkout needs. These renew annually and stop getting updates if you let them lapse — which is a security problem, not just a features one.
Payment gateway fees. Percentage per transaction, not a flat cost. Fine, but model it before you price your products.
Someone to maintain it. Updates, backups, the occasional break. Either your time or someone else's.
A realistic yearly figure
Small brochure site, handled yourself: ৳2,000–4,000.
Business site with a few premium plugins: ৳8,000–15,000.
WooCommerce store with paid extensions and gateway fees: ৳25,000 and up, before anyone is paid to run it.
Where to spend and where not to
Do not overspend on hosting before you have traffic. A ৳199-a-month plan runs a small business site perfectly well, and moving up later takes minutes.
Do spend on the domain you actually want, because that is the one thing you cannot cheaply change later. Everything else — host, theme, plugins, even the whole build — can be replaced. The name is what people remember.
