Starting a hosting business in Bangladesh as a reseller

Starting a hosting business in Bangladesh as a reseller

Most hosting brands in Bangladesh do not own a single server. They resell: domains from a registrar reseller, cPanel accounts from a reseller hosting plan, VPS from a VPS reseller. What they own is the brand, the billing, the customers and the support.

That model works, and it lets you start without buying hardware. Here is what you need, how the money works, and the mistakes that sink most new brands in their first year.

What you can resell

ProductHow it is deliveredMargin
DomainsA registrar module in your WHMCS registers, renews and transfers through your supplier's API.Thin. Domains bring customers in; hosting earns the money.
cPanel hostingA reseller, master or alpha reseller plan with WHM. WHMCS creates the cPanel accounts.Good, and it grows with every customer you add.
VPS and RDPA server module in your WHMCS orders the VPS from your supplier and gives your customer start, stop and console in your client area.Moderate. Customers expect more help.

What you need before the first sale

  1. A billing system. WHMCS is the standard. It handles orders, invoices, renewals, suspensions and support tickets, and almost every supplier ships a module for it.
  2. A payment gateway. Your customers will want to pay with bKash, Nagad or a card. Most gateways ask for a trade licence and a bank account in the business name, so start that paperwork early. Our payment gateway guide covers the options.
  3. A website and a brand. Pricing pages, a knowledge base and clear terms. Customers judge a host by its site before they ever see a server.
  4. Suppliers with modules. A domain reseller account with a WHMCS registrar module, a reseller hosting plan, and a VPS reseller account if you sell servers. The modules are what turn an order into a working service without you doing it by hand.
  5. Prepaid credit. Reseller accounts usually work on balance. When a customer pays you, the module pays your supplier from your credit. Keep it topped up; when the balance runs out, orders wait.

How to price

Start from your cost and the time each product takes, not from the cheapest competitor. A ৳499 domain sold at ৳549 barely covers a payment fee and one support ticket. A hosting account that costs you very little a month is where the profit is, because the work is mostly done once at setup.

Bundles work well: a domain plus a year of hosting at one price is easier to sell and harder to compare than two separate items.

The mistakes that sink new brands

  • Competing only on price. Someone will always be cheaper. Be the one who answers in Bangla within the hour.
  • No support hours. Write down when you answer tickets and stick to it. Customers forgive slow replies they were warned about.
  • Selling what you cannot support. If you cannot help with a VPS that will not boot, sell managed hosting first and add VPS once you can.
  • Running out of credit. An order that does not provision because your reseller balance was empty looks, to your customer, like your company does not work.
  • No backups of your own. Your supplier backs up its servers. Your WHMCS database is yours to protect, and it holds your entire business.

Where HostLagbe fits

We run all three reseller programs, priced in BDT and paid from one account balance. Domain resellers get a WHMCS registrar module with 700+ extensions. VPS resellers get a server module for BDIX VPS, Windows RDP, backup storage and offshore VPS, and their customers get start, stop and console on their own service page. Both price lists are public, so you can work out your margins before you sign up.

Compare our domain and VPS reseller prices, or read how the program works and apply from the reseller portal.
